Binocular Houses
Wandsworth, London, UK
This project is a story of two neighbours coming together to replace their semi-detached bungalows with a new building on two levels. Located on a back-land plot in a conservation area, overlooked and surrounded by private gardens, accessible through two narrow alleyways: the site was a challenge. The design solution was for a sculpted timber building that responded to its settings while maximising the site’s potential in providing two unique homes in one coherent shell. The houses were designed and built to strong sustainability principles, providing high energy efficiency and integrated use of renewables. Our role was an involved one: from architectural, interior and landscape design through to project-managing elements of the build: this story was an intimate, intense and ultimately rewarding journey.
